COL 150 - Why is rest resistance important to my education
After reading the Nap Ministry, I learned a lot of reasons as to why rest resistance is important. Well first I'd like to start off by mentioning what it is. Rest is a form of resistance where one cannot fully recharge due to the systemic law of white supremacy. Living in a capitalistic country where your worth is tied to your work and this takes an extreme toll on one's humanity. Part of the reason why students nowadays are so stressed with school work, that they stay up all night long just to turn in a paper, or why our parents come home after work become physically and mentally drained because they have to worry about the next bill to pay, or what the next meal is going to be.
Depending on whether you live with multiple people or not in one household, this affects all of us. We live in a world where we work to live. This is why we see a lot of people work in regular jobs rather than their dream job. Their only motivation for working is getting enough money to sustain themselves and their families even if it means working in a profession they despise. Thinking about that actually shocks me the most because we grow up thinking we want to be something, go to school to then find a job to support ourselves and the bills to then figure out what profession we want to do to end up not doing it at all.
A lot of society spends their whole life working at a place they have no interests in and this is actually sad. One of the things my mom tells me a lot is to go to school and be whatever you want to be. A lot of my understandings of life comes from her because she left the Dominican Republic at a really young age so she never got to finish her education and by the time she came to America she went straight into working and has been ever since. So she never really got to live the life she truly wanted and so she takes pride in giving me the things she was never offered growing up.
Rest is important to my education because it is essential for the body. It is the first part of self care and making sure we are okay mentally and physically. We are not working robots so it's very important that we remind ourselves to take breaks throughout the day. Managing my time wisely like when I should complete certain tasks at a certain time will be beneficial for my academic performance in my education.
