COLL 150 - My Experience in this class

Coming to RIC, I was really nervous about being a college student because it meant being in a new setting. Being fresh out of high school also seemed kind of scary because I have always been afraid of growing up. I think adulthood itself is scary and being a kid is easier. You're more free, you don't have to worry about responsibilities and you can easily get away with stuff.
When I first started PEP, I didn't really know what to expect. In fact, I was so lost I had to ask Precious to get me into the program because I had missed the application I had to fill out in order to pick my summer classes. With her help I was able to get into MATH010 which is the class I have at 7:45 in the morning. Here, I'd relearn the basics of math like algebra and geometry. Coming into this class, all the desks are in rows and the professor would spend most of the class teaching on the board and everyone would take notes. I'm not gonna lie, I got bored in this class because all we would just do is listen, take notes. There was no social engagement whatsoever other than the usual morning greetings.
Coming into College 150, which is my second class of the day was different from my math class. When I walked in the class the desks were in a circle and I remember Ronya, the professor of the class, having an icebreaker for the class. This was an everyday thing and I really enjoyed this because they were not only engaging but it broke the barrier. This was something I looked forward to when walking into class because the games we played were fun and I got to socialize with the people in my class.
I think Ronya and Brian made the class engaging and fun because I actually got to take away from  the topics that I learned from this class. One of the topics I found interesting was the hidden curriculum. I always wondered why society is built the way it is and why certain people specifically white have higher power than the others or how our standard rules that we learn in school differ from what we're taught outside of school. I now understand how these topics not only play a part in society, but it affects both me and how it will help me throughout my time here at RIC. Thank you guys for this experience!
